AudioSync and AudioSync Remote collect nothing about you. Here is what each app does with your devices, in plain words.
Effective 24 September 2026
The short version
- No accounts, no sign-in and no servers of our own.
- No analytics, no ads and no tracking of any kind.
- We, the developer, do not collect any data from either app. What the apps use stays on your own devices and your own network.
- Nothing is sold or shared with anyone.
This policy covers AudioSync, the Mac app, and AudioSync Remote, the iPhone app. Both are made by Tomer Danan.
AudioSync Remote on iPhone
Local network. The app finds your Mac on your Wi-Fi with Bonjour and pairs with it using a four-digit code that your Mac shows. It talks only to your own Mac. It does not connect to the internet. Your Mac sees the device type (iPhone) and a random ID the app makes for itself, so it can recognise this phone later. The pairing token is worked out on each device and is never sent over the network.
Microphone. The app listens only while you time your speakers or measure from your seat, to hear the short test chirps they play. The sound is held in the iPhone's memory for a few seconds while it looks for the chirps, then discarded. It is never saved or sent anywhere. Only the timing numbers that come out of it go to your Mac.
Motion. The app uses your iPhone's motion sensors only while you aim at a speaker, to tell which way it is from your seat. The sensor readings stay on the phone. Only the speaker's resulting place in your room goes to your Mac.
Stored on the phone. A random ID for this phone, a pairing token, the last Mac you used and your settings. Tap Forget this Mac in the app to remove the pairing from both the phone and the Mac, or delete the app to remove everything on the phone.
Your choice. You can turn off the app's microphone or local network access at any time in Settings, Privacy & Security. Without the microphone, all but timing keeps working. Without local network access the app can't find your Mac, but you can still try its demo.
AudioSync on Mac
Audio. AudioSync captures the sound your Mac plays so it can send it to your speakers. It uses audio input for two things only: that capture, and listening through the microphone when you ask it to measure how late a speaker is. All of this happens on your Mac. Nothing is recorded or kept.
Your speakers. AudioSync streams audio only to speakers you choose on your own network, such as AirPlay and Google Cast speakers, and to wired and Bluetooth outputs.
Now playing. The title, artist and artwork of what your Mac is playing are read on your Mac and shown only on your paired iPhone.
Update checks. Once a day, and when you choose Check for Updates, the app fetches audiosync.dananz.com/appcast.xml to see if a new version is out. As with any web request, the host, Vercel, receives standard request data such as your IP address and the app version. We do not use it to identify or track you. Nothing else is sent.
Stored on the Mac. Your speakers, their delays and volumes, your settings, and for each paired iPhone its random ID, its pairing token, when it paired and last connected, and a small timing correction for its microphone. All of it is kept on your Mac, the tokens in your login keychain and the rest in the app's preferences. It never leaves it, except to show your setup on your paired iPhone. Forget this Mac on the iPhone, or Remove in the Mac app's Settings, iPhone, deletes that phone's entries. An iPhone that hasn't connected for 90 days is removed on its own.
